SADİ YAVER ATAMAN

Born in 1908 in Yanya (Ioannina, Greece), Sadi Yaver Ataman studied dentistry and literature. He was involved in the production of the first folk music programs on Turkish radio, and collected many folk songs countrywide. He also directed the Folklore Performing Ensemble of the Municipality of Istanbul, and in addition to making 17 records, published a large number of books on folklore-related subjects. Some of his published works include: Halk Sazlari ve Yerli Musikiciler (Folk instruments and local musicians, 1938), Memleket Havalari (Tunes of the homeland, 1950), Esnaf Türküleri (Trade-related folk songs, 1954), Türk Halk Oyunlari I Barlar (Turkish folk dances I: Bars, 1977)
