HIRANT KENKÜLYAN EMRE (UDî HIRANT)

(1901-1978)

An oudist and composer of songs for the stage, Udî Hrant was born in Adapazarı and died in Istanbul. He began learning the oud with a friend, and for a time continued teaching himself. Later on he studied with Kemânî Agopos, Kemânî Dikran and Udî Kirkor. He wrote his first song at the age of 33, and worked in Armenian nightclubs in countries including America, Russia, Lebanon and Greece. His Hüseynî, Kürdîli-hicazkâr and Nevâ’da Hicaz Taksims were recorded. His other works include:
