Ekrem Güyer was born in the town of Karaman in 1921. He received his primary education in Karaman, and attended middle school in Izmir. In 1943, upon graduation from high school, he began working at Ankara Radio. He began composing at the age of twelve, and learned baglama, tanbur and ud. He died on February 19, 1954, leaving behind thirty six compositions.
