SUPHİ ZüHDü EZGİ

Suphi Zühdü Ezgi was born in 1869 in Istanbul.  After completing his secondary education, he entered the medical school, then known as the "Tibbiye-i Sâhâne" (Royal Medical School), graduating in 1892 as a medical captain.  He practiced medicine in various places for many years.  Since his childhood, he had studied music from many different teachers.  His musicological works are equally important as his compositions, and along with Saadettin Arel, was one of the founders of Turkish music theory.  He died in 1962, leaving us nearly one hundred fifty works in a variety of forms.
