Şerîf İçli was born on December 20, 1899 in the Beşiktaş district of Istanbul.  He began composing as a child, and worked at Ankara Radio.  He was as much known for his skill as a performer on the ud as for his compositions, of which he produced seventy in the ?ark? form. He died in 1956.
