Selahattin Içli was born in Istanbul in 1923. He graduated from the Istanbul Medical Faculty in 1949, and served as a doctor in various institutions. In 1981, he was appointed teacher in the Istanbul Technical University (ITÜ) Turkish State Music Conservatory, concentrating more heavily on composition, which he had begun in his youth. He is one of the contemporary composers of Turkish classical music, noteworthy for the different rhythms and original melodies he employs in his compositions.
