MEDENİ AZİZ EFENDİ
 
Medenî Aziz Efendi was born in 1842 in Medina, whence his title "Medenî."  Aziz Efendi wrote a great many vocal works in both the religious and secular areas of Turkish music, in a variety of makams and forms.  He was said to have been a good player of tanbur and lavta; he learned piano as well.  He composed in all forms, including ilâhi, beste, semâi and þarký.  His known works consist of one beste and forty-three þarkýs.
