Zekai Dede was born in Istanbul in 1825. He played with the major musicians of the period, and his religious music works count among the masterpieces of Turkish classical music. The musicians and composers brought up on the first half of the 20th century, were trained in the Zekai Dede school. Zekai Dede composed a great number of fasýls, Mevlevî ayins, semais and bestes. He died in 1897.
