Dilhayat Kalfa was a major female composer of Turkish music. We have very little information about her life. As can be deduced from her name, ["Kalfa" is an Ottoman title for lower positions] Dilhayat Kalaf came up in the palace, and it is clear that she served in some duty in which she could earn this title. Though they are not certain, her dates of birth and death are guessed to be 1710-1780. Her technique displays a perfect technique and a superior aesthetic, especially in the progression of her makams and her prosody. Her Evcara Pesrev and her saz semâisis are the products of a true genius.
